I stumbled upon this Article in the Straits times and I will like to share on what I have learnt.
Successful athletes and corporate leaders share a common quality - mental toughness.
Mental toughness is essential to success. It is having the natural or developed psychological edges that enables one to :
1. Cope better than opponents with the many demands such as training, lifestyle, head to head competition that are placed in world-class performers.
2. Be more consistent and better than our opponents at remaining determined, focus, confident and in control under pressure.
So how to train your mental toughness ??
1. Self belief. Display an unshakeable belief in their ability to achieve their competition goals.
2. Motivation. Top performers have an ability to bounce back from performance setbacks with an increased determination to succeed.
3. Focus. Not distracted by others and ignore the "noise".
4. Handling pressure. Top performers thrive on pressure and rise to the occassion.
5. A dose of Confidence + Self esteem.
End Note : To make it to the top, the leader must be willing to experience the valleys to enjoy the peaks.
